Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are expected to wed in Italy on Saturday, according to the Florence mayor's office.
The buildup has been unfolding on Instagram and Twitter, as Kardashian
and her entourage chronicled some elaborate, lavish pre-wedding
adventures in Paris on social media.
Tuesday, the couple shopped at Givenchy. Wednesday, they went to the
gym. Thursday, Kardashian donned a pearl-covered dress from Balmain and
posed with girlfriends in front of the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre
Museum.
On Friday, guests shared brunch and strolled with designer Valentino in
the gardens of his 17th-century Chateau de Wideville west of Paris.
Then came an evening fit for the Sun King: A private tour of the nearby
Chateau of Versailles. Crowds of fans mobbed West's car as it entered
the grounds in a convoy of black vehicles, riding up the cobblestone
toward the gilded entrance of the French royal domain.
Musician Lana Del Rey, said to be a Kardashian favorite, performed three
songs during the rehearsal dinner. "It was all French stuff. Pretty
much everything was truffled," TMZ reported, of the dinner. Fireworks —
of course — followed.
Preparations and departures for the big day, taking place in one of Europe's most beautiful and romantic cities, are underway.
Kardashian familiar Jonathan Cheban posted a photo on Instagram Saturday
morning from what looked to be an airport setting. He captioned it:
"Early morning with the crew ... here we go." Larsa Pippen, wife of
former NBA star Scottie Pippen, posted a picture of a plane full of what
appeared to be wedding guests departing Paris.
A spokeswoman at the Florence mayor's office says the couple rented the
16th century Belvedere Fort for 300,000 euros ($410,000) for a wedding
ceremony Saturday. A Protestant minister is expected to preside over the
ceremony, spokeswoman Elisa Di Lupo said.
The total cost of the wedding is thought to be in the region of $7
million, enough to pay for 250 average weddings in the U.S., according
to GoBankingRates.com, a financial information service. Much of the cost
of the wedding could be recouped through promotional deals.
Kardashian, 33, and West, 36, first stepped out together in April 2012,
catching a screening of The Hunger Games. They were coy, despite
Kardashian's chosen role as the most visible celebrity on the planet,
and claimed to be just friends. In May, during a chat with MTV,
Kardashian said she wasn't yet ready to discuss their relationship, such
as it was.
Fast-forward to December, when West announced, during a show in Atlantic City, that Kardashian was pregnant.
And 2013 proved to be a whirlwind 12 months for the globe-trotting
couple. She and her second husband Kris Humphries officially became
divorced in June, after a 72-day union and a 20-month divorce battle.
Daughter North West was born on June 15. (Fans knew Kardashian was
expecting a girl after she revealed the baby's gender on her reality
show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.)
In August, West unveiled the infant's photo to the curious world — on
future mother-in-law Kris Jenner's short-lived talk-show. In October, he
popped the question — on bended knee at AT&T Park in San Francisco,
accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra.
Kardashian herself summed it up best: "It was an amazing year!!!"
