Profile
Albert is the Eldest Son out of 3 kids of Robert and Janet Edward
Barongo. Born in Dar es Salaam, it was during his time at the
International School of Tanganyika that Albert discovered a talent and
found a passion for football. At the age of 10 his parents moved with
him to South Africa where he played with his school team, Crawford
College. At the age of 13, Albert made a move yet again with his family
to Australia where he made great strides in his career. He played for
various clubs around Brisbane & the Gold Coast and played for his
school John Paul College. During this time Albert also went on to
represent Australia’s u13, u14, u15, u15, 16 & 17 for the Gothia Cup
in Sweden and Denmark. Albert started of his career playing in the
position of Striker where he gained many awards such as being recognized
as the top scorer of his entire division at just the age of 14. At the
age of 17, Albert got selected by Brisbane Roar, FC, one of the teams in
the A-League, but his parents asked if he could play as an amateur as
they knew they were going to move to the States and knew that the
college system in the United States had a huge emphasis in not only
supporting an athletes sporting endeavors but also his academic
achievements.
Albert began his soccer career in the States in 2010 playing for his
college team, Lindsey Wilson College. He chose to major in Business
Administration: Finance as his family owns a commercial real estate
company, Alea Group, and during his off season and down time, Albert can
be found helping around the office. In 2011, the Lindsey Wilson Men’s
Soccer Team won the NAIA Championship, and were semi-finalists in 2012
& 2013. During the summer Albert also played for the PDL (Premier
Development League) teams, River City Rovers in 2011 & 2012 and with
Des Moines Menace in 2013, with which they advanced in the Third Round
of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup before falling to MLS side Sporting KC.
On January 16th, 2014, Albert got selected as one of the 76 players out
of 267 college soccer players in the MLS SuperDraft, and on January 21st, 2014, the Colorado Rapids selected him as a fourth round draft pick.
